Johnson Leads Students In Culinary Efforts
Zane Johnson, a 2004 graduate of Mountain View High School, is now a culinary arts instructor whose students are taking food prep to new heights. Johnson is going into his 10th year as an instructor at Northeast Arkansas Career and Technical Center (NACTC) in Jonesboro. High school students in his program recently won first place in a NASA culinary challenge designed to develop food for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.
Heavy Rain Sweeps Through Lakes Region
The system that brings relief from the heat also brought devastating rain to the Lakes Region. Showers and thunderstorms began moving through the region early Wednesday morning and by the time the skies cleared in the afternoon, general areas of seven to eight inches of rain had fallen with even higher amounts in parts of Arkansas.

National Weather Service recaps Wednesdy morning floods
Wednesday’s rainfall led to records broken and various portions of the Twin Lakes Area flooded. At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, 2.97 inches of rain were recorded at 7 Wednesday morning from the previous 24-hour period. That shattered the previous mark of 1.2 inches in 1964. Since 7, an additional .52 of an inch of rain have been measured with a small possibility of more coming. For the month, the total precipitation so far is 8.61 inches, making it the third wettest July on record.
