Following a standout sophomore season at BYU, Ailana Agbayani has transferred to the University of Oklahoma, joining the powerhouse Southeastern Conference team.

The Iolani graduate and former Hawaii State Player of the Year earned All-Big 12 First-Team honors at BYU this past season. As a shortstop and pitcher, Agbayani boasts a career .379 batting average with seven home runs, 55 RBIs, 97 runs scored, and 24 stolen bases. She also recorded 43 strikeouts over 52 innings in the circle.

Ahead of her junior year, the daughter of former MLB player Benny Agbayani will join the four-time defending national champions of Oklahoma.

“I’m definitely ready for the challenge. I love competition. I love to be able to compete. So I don’t really look at it as pressure, but more. It’s like fun to compete for me, so I’m excited to get going really. It’s just really special for me and it’s just something that I always wanted since I was a little girl just to compete for a national championship at softball,” Agbayani said.

“And I think that Oklahoma’s program is the next step for me just to become a better softball player and a person as well. I know that I will be able to continuing just being a two way player, so which is really awesome to me. I love pitching and I love playing short too. So continuing just to be doing that, especially at a really high level in the SEC conference, is just really special for me.”

“I know that nothing is directly like giving guarantees, so I’m ready to work hard and just to earn my role on the team, really.”

Agbayani joins a recent pipeline from the islands to the Sooners, following OU legend and Campbell graduate Jocelyn Alo, and current freshman infielder Nelly McEnroe-Marinas of Maryknoll.
