The University of Oklahoma announced an expansion of its public tailgating options ahead of its debut football season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), according to a press release from the university.

The new public tailgating areas will be located at prime spots on campus, including the Boyd Lawn, along Asp Avenue, and near the Oklahoma Memorial Union. OU aims to unite generations of Sooners and enhance the tailgating experience as it prepares for its first football season in the SEC, the press release stated.

Fans are invited to tailgate anywhere on campus except for a limited number of restricted areas marked on the university’s tailgating map. For an optimal experience, OU encourages fans to set up in the recommended spaces on the map, which include the Boyd Lawn, the north Asp Avenue area, Brooks Street, Lindsey Street, and Duck Pond. These public tailgating areas are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the press release.

OU highlighted that other campus areas designated for public and private tailgating will remain the same as last season.

The university has outlined specific times for setting up tailgate equipment. Fans can begin setting up in designated areas, excluding Lindsey Street, at 5 p.m. on the day immediately preceding a home football game. Space may be occupied starting at noon, but stakes are not allowed until 5 p.m. For the Lindsey Street area, setup can begin at 7 a.m. on game day. Space may be occupied from 5 p.m. the day before, but stakes cannot go into the ground until 7 a.m., the press release detailed.

OU also announced other game day events and gatherings, including the Walk of Champions, celebrations of the 100th season of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Allstate Party at the Palace, OU Alumni Association Boomer Bash, Champions Tailgate, Varsity O Tailgate, SooneRVillage at Lloyd Noble Center, Fall Family Weekend (Sept. 13-15), and Homecoming activities (Oct. 13-19).

To promote better traffic flow and pedestrian safety, certain roads near campus will be closed or restricted on game days. Public parking on campus is limited but available in specific lots for $30, accepting cash and cards. Fans can park for free at Lloyd Noble Center and ride the game day shuttle for $5 roundtrip per person, as stated in the press release.

Kickoff for the first OU football game againt the Temple Owls is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets at SoonerSports.com/tickets.

For more information on the new tailgating areas, university policies, game day traffic, parking, and ADA shuttle information, fans can visit ou.edu/tailgating, according to the press release.
