Traffic signal work to take place at Boyd Street & Berry Road
A replacement process for traffic signals at Boyd Street and Berry Road will begin by a contractor May 16, 2022, which may cause traffic delays in the area for motorists. The replacement entails a design change and is being made as a proactive safety measure. Traffic signals were examined following a 2012 tornado in Norman leading City staff to discover “clam-shell” designed traffic signals at several intersections – areas in which the mast arms of traffic signals, due to design and installation, are prone to rotate and change direction in high winds. As part of its operating budget, the Traffic Control Division has had recurring funds to replace discovered uprights and mast arms one intersection at a time. The intersection of Boyd Street with Berry Road represents the fourth of six intersections to be addressed.

In accordance with the City’s Traffic Code, all of these elements are critical factors to be evaluated when considering this type of change in control.
