ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Probably the nicest day in quite some time although sizzling summer heat and humidity were in place. With plenty of sunshine and only a few raindrops, Thursday’s highs topped low-mid 90s while heat indices soared to as highs as 111° in a few locations.

Nearly half of high speed chases by Georgia State Patrol end in crashes, AJC finds
A new investigative analysis by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution finds that of more than 6,700 high speed chases by the Georgia State Patrol over a five-year period, almost half ended in a crash. And when someone ends up getting injured or even killed, it was most often a bystander or passenger.

The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office has announced that Sheriff Noel Brown has been sworn in as the Second Vice President of the Georgia Sheriff's Association. The swearing in took place at the GSA's 2024 annual banquet last week at Lake Lanier. The mission of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association is to promote and further professionalize the Office of Sheriff in order to enhance public safety throughout Georgia. Since its beginning in 1954, the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association has engaged in a variety of activities and services, including: Annual training events for Georgia sheriffs and related personnel, and other valuable crime prevention programs. Advocacy at the Georgia General Assembly for tough crime control measures and laws that promote professionalism and enhanced effectiveness of your Office of Sheriff. Sponsor of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, which provides full-time residential care for the abused, abandoned, and neglected children in the state. Membership in the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association is comprised of Georgia’s 159 elected sheriffs. The Georgia Sheriffs’ Association also relies on the financial support of nearly 70,000 Honorary Members who believe in the Office of Sheriff and its mission to preserve the peace in our communities.
