Normandy Park City Manager’s Report for week ending June 14, 2024

City Council Meeting Roundup

On Tuesday, June 11th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed.

• Park’s Commission Chair Ron Ebbers made a presentation on all the good works of the Parks Commission.
• The City Council held public hearings on two important planning documents, the Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
• Ordinance No. 1062 was approved, adopting the PROST Plan. This document serves as our guide for future improvements to our parks and increases our eligibility for specific grants that will help us make the proposed projects in this plan a reality. If you are interested in reviewing the improvements that have been approved, take some time to review the PROST Plan in the recent agenda packet.
• Ordinance No. 1065, amending the salary ranges of certain employees, was approved. These changes, based on a salary survey, will help the City be competitive in its retention and recruitment of staff members.
• The City Council directed staff to include installing a section of guardrail along First Avenue in the FY 2025-2026 budget.
• Resolution No. 1013 was approved to accept the South King Housing and Homelessness Partners (SKHHP) 2025 Work Program and Operating Budget. SKHHP was established through an interlocal agreement to collaborate and share resources to increase the available options for South King County residents to access affordable housing and preserve existing affordable housing. As part of our agreement, members must annually approve the SKHHP work plan and budget.
• Resident Bryan Tomich was reappointed to the StART Committee. The StART Committee was formed to allow cities immediately impacted by the airport to engage with the airport in a new way. Meetings encourage dialogue on airport activities, inform decision-making, and increase knowledge about the airport and surrounding cities.
• The 2025-2030 Six-year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) was approved. This plan is a six-year financial program that lists the projects we would like to accomplish over the next six years for our transportation infrastructure. Like the PROST Plan, it also improves our eligibility for grants supporting the planned projects. The first couple of projects in the TIP include street resurfacing and pedestrian lighting on Normandy Road.
• The City Council approved a contract for construction management services to assist our 2024 Storm and Sidewalk Projects.

Hear Ye Hear Ye – Announcing the Park Life Livin’ Town Hall

All you need to know to live the park life! Join us Wednesday, June 26th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at City Hall for a Town Hall meeting. You can meet your City Council members and City Staff and hear an overview of city services. Afterward, we will open the floor to a conversation with residents about the topics you want to discuss.

Get ready for a new era of community engagement! This Town Hall meeting is the first in a series of quarterly gatherings. We’re thrilled to add this to our calendar as it provides a unique opportunity for the City Council to truly listen to the public and establish a two-way dialogue with residents. We’re looking forward to your active participation.
