Normandy Park City Manager’s Report for week ending July 5, 2024

Volunteers are still needed for the Citizen Budget Advisory Committee

Every two years, the City prepares its biennial budget. This is an important document since it presents the overall plan for allocating the City’s resources to various programs. An essential element of our process includes the work of the Citizen Budget Advisory Group. This group, usually of four to six residents, works with staff to review and provide valuable input on the upcoming proposed budget. Some of the areas that will be reviewed and discussed at meetings include:

    • What are the City of Normandy Park’s most significant expenditures?
    • Where does the revenue come from?
    • What services does the city provide?
    • How is the budget balanced?
    • Which capital projects are being considered?

We will meet weekly over a four-to-five-week period. The review starts with the department director, who explains in more detail the services their department provides, and the resources needed to get the job done. This is your chance to ask questions and make recommendations regarding the proposed budget. Your ideas and comments help us assemble the proposed budget for the City Council, giving you a direct role in shaping our city’s future. Meetings will kick off in late July and are scheduled for approximately 90 minutes each week.

No budget experience is needed, just a desire to improve the delivery of excellent service to residents. Let me know if you are interested.

Summer Music in the Park Kicks off on Sunday, July 7th

The Normandy Park Arts Commission has worked throughout the winter and spring to create an exciting summer music schedule for the annual ‘Music in the Park’ concert series! Every Sunday in July and August, the City hosts free concerts starting at 5:00 p.m. at Marvista Park. These concerts are open to the public and feature live entertainment for all. You can enjoy an authentic Congolese Afro-pop performance from Rumba DB this Sunday. It’s a great opportunity to relax and have fun with your community.

Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair and enjoy this fantastic summer lineup in 2024. The complete schedule is available on the City’s website. See you at the park this summer.

If you have any questions about these items or any other city business, please get in touch with me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov.

    “Have a great week!”
