Normandy Park City Manager’s Report for week ending July 12, 2024

The City is Considering the construction of a multi-use Sports Court

The City of Normandy Park is considering the construction of a new multi-use sport court. This court would focus on pickleball and basketball and is championed by the Normandy Park Metropolitan Parks District (or City Council).

Some fun facts about the Normandy Park Metropolitan Parks District (MPD):

    • It was formed in 2009 when voters approved the formation of a metropolitan park district.
    • The MPD has the authority to create, manage, control, improve, maintain, and acquire parks and recreational facilities.
    • The City Council of Normandy Park is authorized to serve as the board of metropolitan park commissioners.
    • The MPD can assess Normandy Park property owners a levy to support the City’s parks.
    • The City of Normandy Park owns, operates, and maintains all the parks. The MPD is important because it financially covers the costs of these efforts.

The MPD has saved enough money to pursue a capital project in our parks through its efficiency. The project they are most interested in is the construction of a multi-use sports court for residents. This project has tremendous community support, and we will continue to work on the details to make it a reality.

If you are interested, the next step in project planning is a joint meeting with the MPD and Parks Commission. At this meeting, the MPD will discuss its vision and thoughts before the Parks Commission is asked to review the project and make a recommendation to the City Council. Join us on Wednesday, July 17th, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall and listen to the discussion.

Blood Drive at City Hall on July 29th

The need for blood doesn’t take a summer vacation. Join the mobile blood drive at Normandy Park City Hall on Monday, July 29th. Appointments are needed, and the spots are filling fast. Summer Concert Series Continues on Sunday, July 14th

Every Sunday in July and August, the City hosts free concerts at 5:00 p.m. at Marvista Park. These concerts are open to the public and feature live entertainment for all. This Sunday, enjoy a performance by Kiki Valera – A world-renowned Cuban guitarist. It’s an excellent opportunity to relax and have fun with your community.

Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair and enjoy this fantastic summer lineup in 2024. The complete schedule is available on the City’s website. See you at the park this summer.
