    North Canton school board agrees to rename new sections of Memorial Stadium

    Wednesday meeting

    ACTION: Agreed to name different areas of the Memorial Stadium after donors and coaches.

    DISCUSSION: The board approved dedicating and naming the following sections of the Memorial Stadium in recognition of donations to the Grandstand Legacy Campaign for the upgrading and adding to the Memorial Stadium:

    • Locker room and concession stand areas dedicated/named for the North Canton Sideliners.
    • The Home Grandstand is dedicated/named for the Hoover Foundation.
    • Home press box dedicated/named for the Cochenour family.

    The board also approved renaming the tennis courts to Ryan Shaffer Courts in honor of coach Ryan Shaffer who recently retired as the boys and girls tennis coach at Hoover. Shaffer was recently named as the winningest tennis coach by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

    OTHER ACTION:

    • Hired Theresa Berg as the new assistant athletic director, effective Aug. 1, with a one-year administrative contract. She has held different positions with a number of schools and colleges, including Niagara and Walsh universities. Her salary was not available at the time of the meeting.
    • Approved a real estate purchase agreement with Gentlebrook Inc., a non-profit in Hartville, for the sale of four parcels of property and the Greentown Intermediate School building on State Street in Lake Township for $450,000.
