Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Asian Kitchen, a family-owned gem that brings authentic Chinese flavors right to the heart of Durham. The restaurant boasts a cozy, clean setting perfect for a quiet dinner. One of the highlights of my visit was the hand-shaved noodles, a must-try for anyone who appreciates the art of traditional Chinese cooking. Watching the chef skillfully prepare these noodles right before your eyes adds a unique touch to the dining experience.
However, it's not all smooth sailing. While the stir-fried beef and bamboo shoots with cured meat were enjoyable, the braised pork left much to be desired due to its overpowering smell and lack of flavor. Also, a word to the wise: the dishes here can lean towards the salty side, so it might be a good idea to ask for sauces on the side if you prefer a lighter taste.
Despite a few hiccups, Asian Kitchen has its charms, especially if you're in the mood for some handcrafted noodles and robust Hunan flavors. Just keep in mind that some dishes might be hit or miss, but the overall experience is definitely worth trying at least once for anyone who loves exploring different cuisines.
