If you're a fan of dim sum and enjoy starting your day with a soothing cup of early morning tea, 'Hong Kong' might just pop up on your radar. However, my recent experiences have left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, the place has been praised for its great food and friendly staff, making it a hidden gem for some. But, I've encountered a few hiccups that might make you think twice. The orange chicken I tried was underwhelming, to say the least. It was barely cooked through and had an overpowering taste of fried fat, which was quite off-putting. Additionally, the Szechuan beef was another disappointment with its unpleasant texture and a sauce that oddly reminded me of gasoline.
Moreover, service mishaps seem to be a recurring theme. During one visit, I ordered shrimp with white rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was overcooked to the point of crumbling, and the shrimp was bland and sauceless despite being asked if I wanted sauce on it. To make matters worse, when I addressed the issue, the response was less than satisfactory, focusing more on charging me again rather than rectifying the mistake. It's disheartening, especially since I live so close and wanted to enjoy this local spot.
While 'Hong Kong' has its advocates, my experiences suggest you might want to keep your expectations in check if you decide to visit. It's a place of contrasts, where delightful dim sum meets questionable service and dish execution.
