    Glenn named All-State in softball

    Falls Lake’s freshman pitcher Wynterlee Glenn earned a spot on the  North Carolina Softball Coaches Association All-State list in the 1A division.

    Glenn helped the Firebirds post a 14-9-1 overall record and go 6-0 in conference play. She led the team to the Super Six Conference title and took the team to the third round of the 1A North Carolina High School Athletic Association state playoffs.

    The Firebirds opened the season against the Heritage Huskies, a very experienced 4A opponent. Falls Lake fell 5-1 to the Huskies, but Glenn had a good outing, pitching seven innings, striking out eight and walking two of the 34 batters she faced.

    Falls Lake defeated Franklinton 12-0 in the next game on the schedule. Glenn had another good game in the circle against the 4A opponent. She threw just 68 pitches to 20 batters. She struck out 11 and allowed one hit. She did not walk a single batter.

    At the plate she went two for four with a triple.

    The Firebirds tackled another tough 4A school, Wakefield, and fell to the Wolverines 10-0. Glenn faced 12 batters, threw 42 pitches and allowed five hits.

    Falls Lake defeated Wake Prep Academy 6-4 and Glenn had an outstanding game in the circle. She worked seven innings, faced 32 batters and struck out 14. She issued three walks in the game.

    The Firebirds challenged Heritage again and lost 13-3. Glenn did not pitch, but was one of five players to get a hit against the powerful Heritage team.

    Glenn led the Firebirds to a 7-6 win over county rival Oxford Prep. She worked seven innings, faced 36 batters and struck out 12 in the game.

    Falls Lake defeated Wake Prep Academy with an 11-0 score. Glenn worked four innings, faced 14 batters and struck out 10.

    Falls Lake squared off against a strong Roxboro Community team that advanced to the Regional round of the 1A state playoffs, and lost 14-1. Glenn did not play in this contest.

    The Firebirds traveled to Cedar Ridge to face the Fighting Red Wolves and dropped a 10-1 decision. Glenn worked faced 22 batters and struck out four in this game against the 3A opponent.

    Falls Lake fell 10-0 tot he Roxboro Community Bulldogs in the second meeting of the season. Glenn pitched to 21 batters and struck out three.

    Falls Lake topped the American Leadership Academy-Johnston 7-0. Glenn worked seven innings and struck out 10 hitters.

    The Firebirds stepped into conference action against North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham and won when the Unicorns forfeited the game.

    Falls Lake defeated the Northern Durham Knights, a 4A school, 13-0 with Glenn in the circle. She faced 19 batters and struck out 10 in the five inning game.

    The Firebirds defeated East Wake Academy 8-0 with Glenn pitching four innings, facing 14 batters and striking out seven.

    Falls Lake defeated in-county rivals, Granville Central, 15-0. Falls Lake did not post any statistics from this contest.

    Glenn led the Firebirds to a 19-1 win over NCSSM from the plate instead of the circle. Glenn went two for three in the batter’s box including a triple and a home run. Glenn drove in four runs during the game.

    Falls Lake hit a bump in the road with a 5-2 loss to Oxford Prep. Glenn worked four innings and faced 21 hitters. She struck out three in the game.

    The Firebirds tied Cedar Ridge 7-7 in an 11 inning game. Glenn faced 34 batters in the extra inning contest and struck out eight.

    Falls Lake downed Franklin Academy 12-0. Glenn worked five innings, faced 17 batters, struck out seven with no walks.

    The Firebirds topped East Wake Academy 10-0 in the final regular season game. Glenn worked six innings and struck out one-third of the batters she faced without allowing a walk.

    Falls Lake entered the first round of the state playoffs with a 10-2 win over Clover Garden School. Glenn pitched to 32 batters and struck out eleven and allowed just one walk.

    The Firebirds topped Warren County 20-3 in the second round of the state playoffs. Glenn faced 22 batters in the five inning contest and struck out three.

    The playoff run came to a grinding halt with an 11-1 loss to Vance Charter. Glenn faced 24 batters and struck out three in the final game of the season.

    For the 2024 season, Glenn worked 104.2 innings in the circle and faced 464 batters. She struck out 149 and issued just 19 walks. She pitched 12 complete games and had six shut outs. At the plate she had 30 hits that included seven doubles, two triples and team leading four home runs.
