On July 3, a FedEx driver stole a dog who broke loose from her property in North Carolina. The French Bulldog was a champion dog worth more than $5,000. Unfortunately, she passed away soon after, and her remains were found a few days later on July 10. Authorities believe the pup was left in the delivery truck in the sweltering summer heat. This could have led to her overheating and eventually passing away.

The suspect in the dog-stealing case made his first court appearance on Wednesday, July 24, and was bonded out soon after. Weeks after the incident, Kimani Joehon Marshall surrendered himself on Monday, July 22. He has been charged with possession of stolen property, theft of a dog, and cruelty to animals.

The former FedEx driver stole the dog on July 3, per ABC7 News . He was reported to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office on July 7. The canine had run out the door of her home when the pet owner had left it open by mistake. The dog owner told WRAL News that Marshall stole the pup while she was on the loose.

The family tried looking for their beloved pet by posting a flier about their missing French Bulldog, Tori. After seeing the flier, some witnesses helped identify the suspect. Unfortunately, after the larceny, Marshall left Tori in the delivery truck. With the temperature reaching as high as 90 degrees, authorities believe the pup died due to health complications caused by the heat.

FedEx released a statement saying the driver is no longer employed with them after the dog-stealing incident. A spokesperson noted, “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family on the loss of their beloved pet…The driver is no longer providing service on behalf of FedEx.”

Tori was a beautiful French Bulldog who was only three years old. She was also a champion dog, easily worth more than $5,000. The president and CEO of microchip company AKC Reunite, Tom Sharp, stated that the dog breed has been among the most stolen in recent years. Their value and size make them an easy target , as one could easily pick them up and make a run for it.
