Living life in the moment is a beautiful thing, experiencing the here and now while exploring the beauties of life. Some people, however, look toward what the future may bring and wonder how much time they may have. According to a list compiled by Stacker , Orange County was named the area with the longest life expectancy in all of North Carolina, coming out on top of the 100 counties in the Tar Heel State. The county has an average life expectancy of 81.6 years, 5.0 years higher than the state average.
Here are the counties with the longest life expectancy in the state:
Orange County
Wake County
Chatham County
Watauga County
Transylvania County
Durham County
Mecklenburg County
Union County
Dare County
(TIE) New Hanover County & Henderson County
This is how Stacker determined its ranking of the counties with the longest life expectancy in the state:
"By delving into 2024 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, Stacker identified the counties with the longest life expectancy in North Carolina. Life expectancy measures the average number of years from birth a person can expect to live and is calculated based on the number of deaths in a given time period and the average number of people at risk of dying during that period. Counties with unreliable or insufficient data were excluded from the analysis. Mortality data came from the National Vital Statistics System."
