NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating a Friday night officer-involved shooting in North Charleston.

An officer with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) responded to an address on Braddock Avenue around 8 p.m. for a suspicious person who “was acting in an erratic manner and making incoherent statements,” according to police.

Officials said the individual was located while attempting to enter a home on Alpha Street — when the officer tried to detain the person, he became combative.

“During the struggle, the subject managed to break free and forced himself into the residence.  The homeowner confronted the subject and shots were fired by both the homeowner and the officer,” an NCPD Spokesman said.

The officer and subject were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Police say the subject sustained injuries from the shooting while the officer was injured during the fight.

News 2 has reached out to the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division for additional information as they were contacted to investigate per department protocol.
