CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the landscaper who was electrocuted after hitting a powerline on Johns Island.

Mrs. Emma Lopez-Garcia, 31, of North Charleston died on June 28 at 9:32 a.m. at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) following a suspected electrical injury, the coroner reports.

Officials say the electrical injury occurred around 8:39 a.m. on Friday at a landscaping site between Bear Swamp Rd and Saint Hubert Way.

As previously reported, the CCSO responded to the area on Friday morning after receiving reports of two individuals who had been electrocuted while working.

Officials said one of the individuals was on a 6-to-9-foot metal ladder while trimming trees while another held the ladder. One of the workers hit electrical wires overhead while trimming the trees.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
