Gov. Doug Burgum has appointed two new members to the State Board of Higher Education.

Human resources executive Donald “D.J.” Campbell of Mandan will serve a four-year term on the board, taking the seat held by John Warford of Bismarck.

University of North Dakota student Maxwell Eriksrud will serve a one-year term as the board’s student member. The terms begin July 1.

Campbell is a vice president and chief human resources officer for Sanford Health. He attended Bismarck State College and earned a bachelor’s degree and master of business administration degree from Minneapolis-based Capella University. He serves on the North Dakota Workforce Development Council, TrainND Advisory Council and Workforce Policy Committee of the Greater North Dakota Chamber.

Campbell was one of 10 people who applied for the position and one of three finalists . Warford declined to apply for a second term. Campbell’s appointment will require confirmation by the state Senate when the Legislature convenes early next year.

Eriksrud is double majoring in accountancy and entrepreneurship with minors in chemistry and biology. He expects to graduate in May 2026. He is managing director of finance for Dakota Venture Group, a student-run venture capital fund with $2.4 million of investments. He was one of three students nominated by the North Dakota Student Association.

The board oversees North Dakota’s 11 public colleges and universities.
