If former President Donald Trump isn’t the political “Chosen One,” as the new hit song about him proclaims, then he’s certainly the luckiest guy around.

Just in the past three days, he has dodged an assassin’s bullet and seen the most solid prosecution against him dismissed, the claim he took classified documents to Mar-a-Lago with him after leaving the White House.

The result: His chances of being elected president again have soared to a record 74%.

The SportsHandle election odds tracker shows that Trump’s odds have jumped 7% since last week, while President Joe Biden’s have dropped to 17.9%.

A spokesman for the betting website told Secrets: “Donald Trump’s lead over the field was already commanding, but the unfortunate events of this weekend have raised his popularity even more. It’s beginning to look evident that Joe Biden will not step down from the race and that Donald Trump will likely have a clearer path to victory this fall than he had in either 2016 or 2020.”

The site also tested those being considered for Trump’s running mate, a decision that could come on Monday at the opening of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

In the lead is Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) at 45.9%. Next is Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), who was the front-runner, at 41%, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at 10%.

SportsHandle said: “Despite North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum holding the front-runner spot for the past month, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance has overtaken the top odds spot the morning the convention kicks off. Following what unfolded at Trump’s rally this weekend, his VP nominee has taken on even more significance, and the former president has long said he’s a fan of J.D. Vance and that he’s a fighter, something very important to Trump. Vance has made a push at the right time and might ride that momentum to an office in the White House.”
