Burton blames cost for decision to nix Higher Ground move
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Leaders at Burton say cost was a major factor in the decision to pull out of a plan to move concert venue Higher Ground to Burlington. Higher Ground said Wednesday that Burton pulled the plug on the plan for the music venue to move from South Burlington to a building Burton owns in the city’s South End. The decision came after a yearslong legal battle with neighbors opposed to the project.
Welch tours flood damage in Hardwick
Vermont Business Magazine Wednesday, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vermont) toured flood damage from the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl, which impacted communities across Vermont. Senator Welch heard from residents and local community leaders in Hardwick about the challenges of recovering from last week’s flooding while still rebuilding from the July 2023 floods. Senator Welch also surveyed flood damage at the wastewater treatment facility and a local farm, where the Lamoille River took out a bridge leading to one of the region’s leading providers of local produce.
