King and Spanish Mackerel port meetings continue in South Carolina and Georgia
A series of port meetings continues in July and August, providing a unique opportunity for fishermen and others interested in the King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel fisheries to share their perspectives and vision for the future. The port meetings are being hosted by the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and state partners along the Atlantic coast in 2024. Commissioners move ahead with changes to transportation sales tax plan
Athens-Clarke County commissioners moved ahead Tuesday night with a plan to revamp how the county funds some transportation projects. The changes would come to the county’s Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or TSPLOST. That’s a one percent tax, approved by Clarke County voters, that funds a list of transportation improvements. The current TSPLOST is set to meet its revenue goal much earlier than expected, meaning that county voters will vote on the next one in May 2026 instead of November, as originally scheduled.

Attorney Turns to UGA SBDC for Assistance to Establish Firm
After working in larger law firms for many years, Katrina Quicker was ready to start her own intellectual property law firm. She completed the requirements to establish her business as a limited liability company (LLC) but was unsure of her next steps. That’s when she turned to the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (UGA SBDC). With help from the UGA SBDC, she put together a business plan, secured funding, identified a rental space and set up the business side of her firm. Since then, the firm has grown 25%, adding two attorneys and increasing its client load.
