Commissioners move ahead with changes to transportation sales tax plan
Athens-Clarke County commissioners moved ahead Tuesday night with a plan to revamp how the county funds some transportation projects. The changes would come to the county’s Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or TSPLOST. That’s a one percent tax, approved by Clarke County voters, that funds a list of transportation improvements. The current TSPLOST is set to meet its revenue goal much earlier than expected, meaning that county voters will vote on the next one in May 2026 instead of November, as originally scheduled.

Georgia Bulldogs DB no longer with the team
Georgia Bulldogs senior defensive back David Daniel-Sisavanh is no longer with the team. Sisavanh, who had 29 total tackles and two pass deflections over the past three seasons, was expected to be part of Georgia’s defensive backs rotation. “We wish David good luck during his next step,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart in a statement the school released. Daniel-Sisavanh is no longer with the team due to a violation of team rules. Georgia’s defense will miss Daniel-Sisavanh’s experience, but the Bulldogs have not had him in the fold for a while. Daniel-Sisavanh missed Georgia’s spring game due to an undisclosed reason and/or injury. We did not project Daniel-Sisavanh to start in 2024, but we did have him as one of Georgia’s best depth options in the secondary. Kirby Smart may provide more detail on the situation today during SEC media days.

Judge refuses to extend timeframe for Georgia's new Medicaid plan, only one with work requirement
ATLANTA (AP) — A federal judge ruled that the Biden administration complied with the law when it declined to grant an extension to Georgia’s year-old Medicaid plan, which is the only one in the country that has a work requirement for recipients of the publicly funded health coverage for low-income people. The state didn’t comply with federal rules for an extension, so the Biden administration legally rejected its request to extend the Georgia Pathways to Coverage program’s expiration date from September 2025 to 2028, U.S. Judge Lisa Godbey Wood ruled Monday. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s office said it would work with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to “continue to pursue the necessary time to demonstrate the program’s viability.” “Just as before, we remain committed to this Georgia-specific, innovative initiative that leads not only to healthcare coverage but to better opportunity and coverage options for those who enroll in the program,” spokesman Garrison Douglas said in a statement.
