85-year-old dad arrested for allegedly fatally shooting son during fishing tournament
OVINGTON, Ga. (TCN) -- An 85-year-old man was taken into custody for reportedly shooting and killing his 60-year-old son during a fishing tournament last week. On Friday, July 12, at 6:55 p.m., Covington Police Department officers responded to a shooting call on Lakeview Drive and found Troy Eaton dead inside a building on the property. Police said the suspect, Wayne Eaton, was still on the scene when officers arrived, and he was taken into custody.
Athens City Hall becomes weapon-free among other security changes
Several new security measures have been implemented effective Monday, July 15, for all visitors to City Hall, in order to meet requirements of state law. The Athens-Clarke Unified Government Central Services Department coordinated the new security screening measures in conjunction with the Manager’s Office, employees in City Hall and the Attorney’s Office.

City of Monroe to have 3 public hearings on proposed rate increase in 2024 millage rate
