UGA Plant Center reaches across campuses, disciplines
ATHENS -- The University of Georgia Plant Center is a collection of faculty and scientists from across multiple campuses who share common interests in plant science. From basic science in plant biology and genomics to highly applied projects in genetics and plant breeding, researchers run the gamut of plant-based research. More than 60 faculty members are affiliated with the center, hailing from seven departments across four colleges and schools and three separate campuses in Athens, Tifton and Griffin. Fueled by $26.8 million in sponsored awards in Fiscal Year 2023, researchers are making enormous impact in their fields, contributing research like cutting-edge technologies that enable researchers to re-engineer poplar trees for alternatives to petroleum-based products. Through an annual retreat that improves collaboration across various departments, an integrated plant science graduate curriculum that allows first-year graduate students to gain broad exposure to plant research, and teams focused on translating research into new products, the Plant Center has become integral to university and state success.

Georgia's undefeated regular season in 2023 was spoiled with a slip at the finish line, falling to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. Former Georgia Bulldog named as Rams player on the roster bubble
Former Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Derion Kendrick has been identified as a player on the roster bubble for the Los Angeles Rams. Kendrick recorded 92 tackles and an interception during his first two seasons with the Rams, so it would be surprising to see Kendrick not make Los Angeles’ roster. Kendrick won a national championship with Georgia football in 2021. He could start at outside cornerback for the Rams, but he faces a significant amount of competition at that position and could be forced to move to the slot. “Kendrick has been benched on three separate occasions in the last two years, including twice last season,” wrote Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire. “The Rams appear to be trying him in the slot, based on Chris Shula’s comments earlier this offseason, but that’s not necessarily a good position for him given his lack of speed and quickness.” Another former Bulldog, quarterback Stetson Bennett will be fighting for a job with the Los Angeles Rams over the next couple of months.
