Health inspections: See which restaurant has 'fruit flies and live roaches'
The Georgia Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Section, conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe. The following is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that have been inspected between July 5 and 11, accompanied by their scores and, in some cases, the health infractions that lowered those scores.

DECATUR -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Monday the promotion of Catherine Jordan to manager of the GBI’s Central Regional Crime Lab. ATHENS -- As overnight temperatures increase during the summer, so do mosquito populations, bringing with them the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. BRASELTON, Ga. — A former Georgia high school football standout was found shot to death in a hotel room on the evening of Sunday, July 7. The Braselton Police Department said officers were dispatched at 5:15 p.m. to The LaQuinta Inn & Suites at 200 Kaival Lane in Braselton, Jackson County, Georgia. When officers arrived, they said they found a man in a hotel room with a gunshot wound to his head.

ATLANTA — Derrick Hayes, the owner of Big Dave's Cheesesteaks, says he will not reopen his flagship restaurant after the Atlanta water crisis. The flagship restaurant is located in Downtown Atlanta, off Forsyth Street NW. Big Dave's Cheesesteaks was founded by West Philadelphia native Derrick Hayes, who named the restaurant chain after his late father.
