PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates re-signed right-handed starting pitcher Domingo German, bringing him back on a minor league contract, according to Alex Stumpf of MLB.com. Homeland Security secretary names independent panel to review Trump assassination attempt
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has appointed a bipartisan, independent panel to review this month’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Officials said Sunday that the panel members will have extensive law enforcement and security experience to conduct a review of the planning for and actions taken by the Secret Service and other law enforcement. The panel will have 45 days to review the policies and procedures of the Secret Service before, during and after the rally on July 13 where a gunman fired at Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle says she welcomes the review.

Pittsburgh is putting an extra emphasis on improving the safety of the streets in its neighborhoods, and the effort is beginning to show positive results. The city’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure is using its discretionary funds to pay for relatively inexpensive improvements such as sidewalks, speed humps, crosswalk improvements, parking restrictions near intersections, and bump-outs to shorten the crossing distance for pedestrians at intersections. Since the beginning of the year, the city has announced more than a dozen projects from Highland Park to Homewood and Mount Washington to improve safety for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
