Time is Running Out on the Unclaimed $500,000 Iowa Lottery Ticket
The winner of a massive lottery prize has less than a month to claim it before a six-figure piece of paper effectively becomes worthless. Back in March, a Powerball ticket was purchased at a Kwik Star, located at 1502 South Federal Avenue, in Mason City, IA. That ticket proved to be a lucky one, as it's now worth $500,000. The prize will expire if unclaimed by the September 12th deadline.
See What Archeologists in Iowa Unearthed After 13,600 Years
It's nice to see these coming out of the ground like this. Archaeologists in Iowa have made a significant discovery with the unearthing of a well-preserved mastodon skull, dating back approximately 13,600 years. This find, located in the southern part of the state, is Iowa’s first notable mastodon and includes several bones primarily from the skull. The timing of this mastodon’s life aligns with the era when the first humans were inhabiting the region. I wonder if this mastodon knew the Flintstones.

Brian Ferentz to Serve as Interim HC During Kirk Ferentz’s Suspension
The college football world received surprising news on Thursday afternoon when University of Iowa Director of Nepotism Head Coach Kirk Ferentz announced a one game suspension for a self-reported recruiting violation related to securing the commitment of QB Cade McNamara (really!). I know, I can’t believe we’re punishing recruiting in 2024 either.
The NCAA Clown Show Continues
Here is the latest example of the NCAA Clown Show: Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz has been suspended for the Hawkeyes season opener vs Illinois State due to a potential Level II recruiting infraction. It appears the NCAA found evidence that the Hawkeyes reached out to their starting quarterback Cade McNamara while he was still a member of the Michigan Wolverines. That would be the definition of tampering.
