NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Construction has started on the first new North Little Rock Central Fire Station building in more than 60 years.
According to city leaders, the new building is coming thanks to a half-cent sales tax that voters approved in 2022.

“It doesn’t have to be a fire,” North Little Rock Mayor Terry Hartwick said. “It can be a heart attack. It can be just helping someone that’s fallen. Or a wreck on a street.”
NLRFD Assistant Fire Chief Rick Albers said the new building will allow firefighters to provide better service and increase morale among crews.
“More space. Modern amenities,” Albers said. “Lot nicer environment for our guys to work in.”

Homeowner Jasmine Jackson said she’s excited to have a fire station right across the street.
“It’s nice to know there are going to be some service members across the street just in case,” she said.
The new station will also feature a baby box, a space for mothers to place their babies when they can’t care for them, making it the first fire station in the city with this feature.
