New Fast-Casual Mexican Eatery to Bring Authentic Birria to North Myrtle Beach

A new fast-casual Mexican eatery specializing in birria is coming to North Myrtle Beach .

Bad Birria will soon open at 3914 Hwy 17 South, Unit C , in the former Barefoot Bistro space. According to a report from The Sun News , the restaurant will serve birria tacos, tostadas, and ramen, along with other traditional Mexican cuisine.

Birria is a classic Mexican dish that originates from the state of Jalisco, though it is popular in other parts of Mexico as well. Typically made with beef or goat meat and marinated in a rich blend of spices and dried chiles, it is slow-cooked until tender and flavorful.

Lee Wells has teamed up with locals Phil Goldman , Joey Mandia , and Regino Barrios to bring this new concept to the area. Mandia owns Backyard Sports Bar and Grill , while Goldman owns Wiseguys Bar and Grill . Together, they also oversee Koi, a newly opened Japanese fusion eatery .

Originally from Cuernavaca, Mexico, Barrios has been making birria for his friends for some time now, according to Wells. The group was inspired to open a birria restaurant in Myrtle Beach due to the lack of places serving it and aims to keep the food authentic.

Bad Birria will operate as a fast-casual restaurant where customers place their orders at a counter, and the food is then brought to their tables by staff. Wells told The Sun News that the group is hoping to debut the new eatery next month, in July of 2024.
