NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Crews in North Myrtle Beach are continuing a project that invovles inspecting and cleaning ocean outfalls.

The routine inspections and cleanings are done every five years, and if any deficiencies are found, they are repaired immediately by a diver, the said in a news release.

Crews started at at 6th Avenue South on July 4 and remained there until Wednesday. Starting on July 18, the Jack-Up Barge was relocated to Main Street where it will remain for one week.

After that, it will move to 21st Avenue South, 39th Avenue South, and then 45th Avenue South. The work at each location is expected to take one week, weather permitting.

An outfall is a pipeline or tunnel that discharges municipal or industrial wastewater, stormwater or combined sewer overflows into the sea.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation as we carry out this essential maintenance work,” the city said.
