Preparing for Haines’ Next Borough Manager
Haines Borough Manager Annette Kreitzer will leave her job in a month. The borough just started to advertise for the position. They discussed the matter at their last meeting. Kreitzer told the assembly she has placed an ad in the Chilkat Valley News to seek applicants. This meets the minimum requirements of borough code. Assembly member Debra Schnabel suggested searching beyond newspapers.
Kodiak's Acting City Manager and Harbormaster are two finalists for city manager job
The list of candidates for the City of Kodiak’s next manager is now cut down to two people; both are already city employees. Sixteen candidates from all over the country submitted their applications by the deadline in late May for the local city manager job. The two finalists are Acting City Manager Josie Bahnke and Kodiak’s Port Director and Harbormaster Dave Johnson.
Blue Bell debuts new limited-time flavor, Cookies ‘n Cream Cheesecake
(Gray News) – Blue Bell is bringing a new ice cream flavor to store shelves this summer: Cookies ‘n Cream Cheesecake. In a news release, Blue Bell said the new flavor combines “a rich, cheesecake ice cream blended with chocolate cookie-crusted cheesecake pieces and chocolate crème-filled cookies.”
Two months after announcing purchasing arrangements, Contango completes acquisition of HighGold
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Fairbanks-based mining company Contango ORE announced Wednesday that it has completed the acquisition of HighGold Mining. The deal, reportedly costing Contango about $37 million, gives the Fairbanks company control of the 21,000-acre Johnson Tract southwest of Anchorage. That tract contains the JT Deposit, HighGold’s “flagship” asset, which has gold, zinc, copper and silver deposits.
Nanooks Hockey Night at the Goldpanners Set for July 12
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team will be present at the Alaska Goldpanners game on Friday, July 12 at Growden Memorial Park. Hockey Night with the Panners will be followed by first pitch at 7:00 p.m. as the Panners take on the Sawtooth Sockeyes. Salmon working group calls on feds to further restrict bottom trawling near Kuskokwim Bay
A multi-agency salmon management group on the Kuskokwim River is calling on the federal government to address the impacts of bottom-trawling in the region. The move comes primarily in response to widespread concerns about bottom-trawling vessels fishing in close proximity to the mouth of the Kuskokwim River earlier this year. The Kuskokwim River Salmon Management Working Group, a longstanding salmon advisory body that meets each week of the salmon season in Bethel, took up the issue on July 10.
