Soaking rains build into Southcentral through the weekend
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Despite the trend of wetter conditions for much of the state, Anchorage has remained on the drier side. While many areas across Southcentral have already received over half an inch of rain this month, Alaska’s largest city has only managed to see 0.03″. However, that is all set to change as widespread rain is set to build into Southcentral through the weekend.

Twelve candidates are running for Alaska’s At-Large U.S. House district this year—the second-most in the last 10 years
This year’s filing deadline for candidates running for Congress in Alaska was June 1, 2024. Twelve candidates are running for Alaska’s At-Large Congressional District, including two Democrats, four Republicans, two non-major party candidates, three nonpartisan candidates, and one undeclared candidate. Twenty-two candidates ran in 2022, six candidates ran in 2020, and seven ran in 2018.
Homer harbor expansion study receives full funding for second year
The City of Homer secured funding for the second year of a study looking into the feasibility of expanding its harbor. Gov. Mike Dunleavy signed the state capital budget on June 28 that put nearly $288,523 towards the study to pay for additional costs. This amount is on top of $750,000 the state already contributed to the project.
Woman, 79, killed after dirt bike rider hit her on pedestrian path, authorities say

The City of Kenai's vehicle maintenance shop has developed a built-in jump-starting system that can revive a police car with a dead battery. The system is powered by the push of a button underneath the vehicle's steering wheel, which is connected to a self-contained jump unit under the vehicle’s hood.
Anchorage International Film Festival Introduces New Leadership Team and 2 New Categories (Exclusive)
The Anchorage International Film Festival has announced four new appointments to its leadership team along with two new competitive categories. Pat McGee and Adam Linkenhelt will be the new festival directors, with Kim Walsh as the new director of operations and Caroline Pessoa Murphy as director of development. The two new categories for the film competition are the Real-World Impact category and the Explorer’s Achievement Award. They’ll be in play for the first time at this year’s festival, running from December 6-14 in Anchorage, Alaska.
