NORTH PORT — Registration is now open for the 13th annual Tour de North Port, set for Oct. 20.

    Alice White discussed it recently.

The event is a bicycling tour of North Port’s nature, including Florida pine flat woods, and the parks that border the Myakkahatchee Creek.

The Tour de North Port is not a race, but instead a “scenic, on-road bicycle ride.” Options for riders include rides of 15, 35 or 65 miles.

Breakfast, catered lunch and desserts including homemade pies will also be offered.

“Fully-stocked rest stops” with homemade snacks will be featured as well.

Full mobile support and gear will be provided by Louie’s Bicycles in North Port, and Real Bikes of Venice. On-site assistance, too, will be provided by Bicycles International of Venice.

A “SWAG bag” and T-shirt will be given to the first 400 to register.

Registration is $50 through July 31, $55 from Aug. 1-31; $60 from Sept. 1-Oct. 18; and $65 at the door. Early registrations close Oct. 18 at midnight and group discounts are available.

Doors will open at 7 a.m. for breakfast and check-in.

Group starts will begin at 8 a.m., at Imagine School, 2757 Sycamore St.

Riders can pick up their registration packet, T-shirt, and check-in, from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 19 at the City Center Green, during the North Port Fall Festival. At which point, in-person registrations will also be accepted, costing $65.

Last year, more than 500 cyclists signed up. The Tour de North Port is a yearly fundraiser for People for Trees.
