The Gulf Coast Community Foundation recently approved more than $1.3 million in grants, including $785,000 for the region’s cornerstone arts and cultural organizations. “The Empowering Arts Grant Program is a true example of trust-based philanthropy," Gulf Coast CEO Phillip Lanham said. "We cut the administrative red tape for these incredible organizations that serve as the underpinning of our region’s vibrant culture. Not only do these organizations enrich our lives, they also serve as a powerful economic force in our region, generating $342,000,000 in economic impact in 2022.”
Polk Pre-Collegiate Academy in Winter Haven ceases operations for coming year
Polk Pre-Collegiate Academy, a charter school based in Winter Haven, will not operate for the coming school year, Polk County Public Schools has confirmed. “Our staff is reaching out to the impacted students and families and will help place them in our schools as needed,” PCPS spokesperson Jason Geary said in an email. “We are glad to assist families and get them situated before school resumes; it is estimated that 40 or fewer students will be impacted by this closure.”
