Nina Vetter steps into Newport city manager role
The city of Newport officially welcomed Nina Vetter as its new city manager on July 9. She was unanimously voted by city council on April 19 to succeed Spencer Nebel, who recently retired after serving more than 10 years as city manager. 61-year-old man dies after being hit by car in east Salem
A 61 year-old Salem man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle on Sunday morning on State Street near 47th Avenue SE, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office. 911 callers reported a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle just before 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies and emergency personnel responded and attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man died at the scene.

I-84 eastbound closed from La Grande to Baker City due to wildfire
BAKER CITY, Oregon (CBS2) — TripCheck says I-84 eastbound is closed from La Grande (Exit 265) to Baker City (Exit 304) due to wildfire activity east of Baker City. I-84 remains closed in both directions between Baker City and Ontario. The Oregon Department of Transportation says to delay travel or use an alternate route by staying on the main highways. Additionally, do not follow GPS directions or detour on county or forest roads as these are unsuitable for interstate traffic.
