Two dead after major head-on crash east of Sandy
Two people died in a three-car crash Sunday afternoon, July 21, about 10 miles east of Sandy after a teenage driver allegedly drifted into oncoming traffic. Oregon State Police responded at 1:45 p.m. to the Highway 26 crash, at milepost 32, near Cherryville. According to early investigations, a juvenile girl driving a Volkswagen Tiguan westbound entered the eastbound lanes for unknown reasons and struck an oncoming BMW 540. Three people are dead after separate motorcycle crashes in Gresham, McMinnville and Clark County over the weekend, police reported. The industrial real estate market in the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro metropolitan statistical area has demonstrated notable trends and shifts over the past year, according to a recent Kidder Mathews Portland Industrial Market Report for the second quarter of 2024. Despite the stability in average asking lease rates, which remained constant at $0.88 per square foot year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter, net effective rates have declined due to increased tenant improvement allowances and free rent incentives. Kidder Mathews believes that this is an indication that while landlords are maintaining asking rates, they are more flexible in negotiations to attract and retain tenants.
40-member band seeks new players, begins practice for fall
The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble has scheduled its first rehearsal in preparation for two fall concerts and is inviting potential new members to play along. Rehearsals for the fall season begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 29 at the Waldport Community Center, 265 E. Hemlock St. No audition is required and the band is currently looking for French horn and percussion players, although all are welcome to join.
Fight against invasive water plant moves to Oxbow Slough at Minto-Brown Island Park
Crews will begin combating an invasive water plant at Minto-Brown Island Park's Oxbow Slough starting Monday. Visitors to Minto-Brown are advised to stay out of the slough during treatment times to avoid possible exposure. Treated plants will be marked with a blue-green dye to show areas treated. The herbicide is absorbed by the plants within 24 hours, and the blue dye may remain visible for weeks.
At food pod, that tent is gone for now
Since last winter there has been a pod of food trucks, “Charli’s on I-5,” near the freeway in Albany, just off southbound Exit 234 on Airport Road. Last month the owners asked the Albany City Council to let them keep in place a large tent they had put up to shelter diners, to no avail.
