NORTH PROVIDENCE − The Rhode Island Department of Health has recommended closing the beach at Governor Notte Park due to high bacteria counts.

The department announced that recommendation on Tuesday.

The department also recommended that residents avoid contact with Deep Spring Lake in Roger Williams Park after finding a blue-green algae bloom.

The release noted, "All recreation, including swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking, should be avoided. People should not ingest water or eat fish from the ponds. Pets can also be affected by exposure. "

The agency will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day, says a news release. The status of a beach may change as new data become available.

The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line: (401) 222-2751. A list of closed beaches can also be accessed here.
