The St. Michael Mike’s American Legion Post 567 baseball team put an exclamation point on the regular season and earned the two-seed in their bracket of the 2024 American Legion Sub-State Baseball Tournament.

North St. Paul made the trek to St. Michael on July 18 in the final game before the playoffs. It was a complete disaster for the 39ers as the Mike’s had 14 hits and drew 10 walks in four and a half innings.

Post 567 scored 22 runs and won 22-2 on the 10-run rule. North St. Paul scored two in the top of the first and it was all St. Michael from there. The Mike’s scored five in the first, eight in the second and nine in the third.

After NSP wasn’t able to cut the deficit to single digits during the top of the fifth the game was called.

Eleven players scored at least once for St. Michael and nine drove in at least one run.

Drew Luster went 3-for-3 with a double, five RBI and three runs scored. Lincoln Rick was 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. Wesley Byer and Lincoln Tangen both had three RBI. James Fry scored four times. Zach Zanetti also scored three times.

Four different pitches got into the game for the Mike’s. Zanetti allowed two runs in two innings with two Ks. Lawson Ness struck out three in an inning of work. Zack Pribyl and Byer both got one punchout in one inning of work.

The first round of the playoffs will be a rematch of the regular season finale.

St. Michael (2) played North St. Paul (7) on Tuesday in round one of the playoffs. The winner advanced to play on Wednesday against the winner of Totino-Grace (1) and the winner of the play-in game. The tournament continues throughout the weekend until a winner is crowned.

All games will be played at Totino-Grace High School in Fridley.
