Four Injured, Including Child, in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-93 in Medford; Investigation Underway
Early this morning, a collision on Interstate 93 in Medford resulted in injuries for four individuals, including a child. The incident occurred just after 5 a.m. near exit 24 on the southbound side, causing significant delays and impacting morning commuters. According to Massachusetts State Police, the multi-vehicle accident involved a road detail vehicle among the three cars that collided. NBC Boston reports that the affected lanes were shut down for approximately one hour during the investigation and cleanup.

Avedian Receives Harvard Heroes Award
WATERTOWN — John Avedian received the prestigious 2024 Harvard Heroes Award on June 13. According to Harvard’s website, “Harvard Heroes is an annual program held in the spring that recognizes and celebrates high-performing staff from across every School and the Central Administration. These staff members have been nominated and/or selected by their peers and departments for their leadership, teamwork, adaptability, innovation and exceptional contributions.” This award is bestowed on just one-half of one percent of all Harvard staff. Avedian has served in the Central Administration of Harvard for the last 8 years as a Senior Safety Officer.
Supt. of Hingham Public Schools Year Two Evaluation
Superintendent of Schools Margaret Adams was rated “needs improvement” overall during the school committee’s evaluation this week, following her second year on the job. The School Committee met with Dr. Adams on Wednesday, June 24, to conduct her annual evaluation. During the meeting, the Chair of the School Committee, Nes Correnti, read Dr. Adam’s performance review and noted that similar to last year, she worked through the ratings and committee comments with the Vice Chair to complete the evaluation.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… San Rock 2024 is right around the corner! Once again, we will gather on freshly painted, newly weed-whacked, pothole-free Pearl Street (thank you, Mr. Mayor) to celebrate the best three days of the year in Malden: Saint Rocco Feast weekend (don’t call it a festival!). Hopefully, we will have marvelous weather as the weekend welcomes pilgrims from far and wide to enjoy this spectacular three days of music, food and friendship. Gotta let Malden know this right off the bat – so many people make this event the smashing success it is. Takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to make it happen. President at the Italian American Citizens’ Club Billy Settemio, San Rock Big Cheese Joyce Mover and our trusty five tool player, Anthony Spadafora, are but a few who ensure a weekend of family-friendly fun.

Dozens of people have backed out of donating their bodies to Harvard Medical School in the year since a morgue manager was accused of stealing donor remains. Charged last year in an alleged scheme to steal and sell donated human remains, former Harvard Medical School morgue manager Cedric Lodge is long gone from campus, his case now winding its way through federal court.
Professor Emeritus Ralph Gakenheimer, mobility planner and champion of international development, dies at 89
Ralph Gakenheimer, MIT professor emeritus of urban planning, passed away on June 17 in Concord, Massachusetts. He was 89 years old. A faculty member in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP), Gakenheimer focused his research on the dynamic relationship between how we classify and use land with the mobility choices individuals make in cities. He was particularly interested in the intentions and choices behind the selection of a particular mode of mobility and how those choices intersect with sustainability and accessibility in developing nations.
