NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Heads up, motorists!

A portion of Routes 116/121 was closed on Monday, July 15, by the state Department of Transportation so it could replace a culvert there.

Folks will have to completely detour around the site for about three to four weeks, according to North Salem Supervisor Warren Lucas.

Detours will direct traffic north on Route 121 (Peach Lake Road), west over Bloomer Road, and south on June Road.

Lucas asked the DOT for additional signage after learning that some commuters and other nonresidents driving through town were overshooting their marks and having to backtrack.

The remaining work is expected to take a couple weeks more, but one lane will be open.
