Work starts on Ottawa water main
Work started Monday in the 100 and 200 blocks of Anita Drive in Ottawa from La Salle Street to the end of Anita Drive. Watermain work is expected to be completed in a few weeks. Additional updates will be provided as the construction project progresses, the city of Ottawa said in a news release.
Dispute between 2 men in parking lot led to Streator shooting, police say
Streator police released more details Monday on what they believe led to a shooting Saturday afternoon in City Park. Police said two men had an apparent dispute Saturday in the parking lot of City Park. One of them left, only to return in a blue two door coupe with several other occupants, police said. The person who exited the vehicle walked up to the man he had encountered earlier in the parking lot and fired several shots from a semi-auto handgun, wounding him at least twice, police said.

IVCC Board OKs tentative budget with 6.2 percent revenue increase
OGLESBY – The Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees on July 11 approved a $41 million tentative budget and set a public hearing on the document next month. The budget represents a 6.2 percent increase in revenue due to an increase in sales and service revenue and investment income. Expenditures are set at $45.1 million, a 16.8 percent increase from the fiscal year 2024 budget, largely due to planned Master Plan initiatives.

Cerri Memorial Park in Cedar Point will be the backdrop for two days of live entertainment Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, during the Cops4Cancer summer event. Cops 4 Cancer grew from a private fundraiser at Terry Guisti’s Peru home in 2003 and officially became a nonprofit seven years later after it joined forces with Betty Glynn, another cancer advocate.
