IVCC Board OKs tentative budget with 6.2 percent revenue increase
OGLESBY – The Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees on July 11 approved a $41 million tentative budget and set a public hearing on the document next month. The budget represents a 6.2 percent increase in revenue due to an increase in sales and service revenue and investment income. Expenditures are set at $45.1 million, a 16.8 percent increase from the fiscal year 2024 budget, largely due to planned Master Plan initiatives.
Earlville man arrested by TRIDENT agents for alleged cocaine delivery
Agents with the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team (TRIDENT) arrested an Earlville man following an alleged drug delivery Thursday. According to a news release, 30-year-old Kenneth R. Hacek was allegedly involved in delivering three grams of purported cocaine to a person who was working with TRIDENT agents. The alleged exchange took place in the 4200 block of East 16th Road in Earlville. Following the alleged delivery, Hacek was involved in a traffic stop with TRIDENT agents and was taken into custody.

Mid Summer Showdown will be held from noon to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Sandwich Fairgrounds, 1401 Suydam Road. Streator 12-Year-Old All-Stars start off 2-0 at state tournament
At Ogle and Whiteside counties on Saturday, the Streator 12-Year-Old All-Stars started off the Illinois Major Division State Tournament with a pair of victories, setting themselves up nicely heading into Sunday’s final day of pool play and the start of bracket play Monday at field in Rochelle, Rock Falls and Sterling.

History of Interurban, local streetcar lines talk set July 21 at Ottawa museum
A history lecture is scheduled 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at the Ottawa Historical and Scouting Heritage Museum. Dan Schott will talk about the history of the Interurban and the local streetcar lines. Sandwich to begin street, sidewalk repairs this week
Beginning the week of Monday, July 22, the city of Sandwich will begin street and sidewalk improvements in two specific areas. The work will occur on Dayton Street between Church Street (Route 34) and Lions Road and on East Center Street from Main Street to Latham Street. It is estimated that these improvements will be made over a three- to four-week period, depending on weather conditions.
Motorcyclist dies in Peru 2-vehicle crash
A motorcyclist died Saturday after a two-vehicle crash on May Road just east of Route 251 in Peru. Peru police, fire and emergency medical services responded at 10:35 a.m. to the crash involving a vehicle and motorcyclist. Upon the officers’ arrival, the motorcyclist was found unresponsive, Peru Police Chief Sarah Raymond said. Lifesaving efforts were performed by officers and EMS personnel, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Raymond said.

Road and Sidewalk Work to Begin Monday on Dayton and East Center Streets in Sandwich
Sandwich City Hall says road and sidewalk work is starting Monday on Dayton Street between Route 34 and Lions Road and on East Center Street from Main Street to Latham Street. The streets are being repaved, and new sidewalks are being poured. The roads will stay mostly open when possible, but sidewalks will be closed. Residents are asked not to drive over newly poured sidewalks in front of their driveways for a minimum of 72 hours and not to walk on them for at least 24 hours. People parking on the street will need to find alternative parking while work is being done in front of their homes.
