Lee County man dies after Route 251 crash north of Mendota
A Lee County man died after a single-vehicle crash Sunday north of Mendota. David T. Gorman, 47, of Steward died at OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota from injuries after his southbound vehicle left Route 251 and struck a tree, according to a news release sent Tuesday from the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.
OSF HealthCare defers decision on future Ottawa hospital plans for 1 month
The state of Illinois’ decision for future services at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa has received a stay. Hazardous conditions on Fox River prompt temporary ban on recreational boating
High water levels and swift currents have created “conditions significantly hazardous” for boaters on large portions of the Fox River, officials report. Recreational boating is banned until further notice from the mouth of the Fox River at Pistakee Lake near Johnsburg and Fox Lake, extending south through Kane and Kendall counties and ending south of the Bridge Street Bridge in Millington, which straddles Kendall and La Salle counties, according to an Illinois Department of Natural Resources news release.

A home-based baker is opening a storefront this fall in downtown La Salle. Sophia Antle will open Sugardemon Speciality Bakery at 502 First St., which is under renovation. Antle has been operating a home-based bakery for two years in La Salle. She’s been baking for a few years and began by bringing in baked goods to work to share with coworkers.

The Ottawa Senators have signed current restricted free agent (RFA) goaltender Mads Sogaard to a two-year contract. This contract is structured in such a way that it allows Sogaard to continue to develop and still make use of the other goalies in the system. The deal is a two-way contract for the first year, but changes to a one-way deal for 2025-26. It could spell an excellent opportunity for Sogaard at that time.
