"Information for those who were woken up a short time ago to your house shaking, there was just a 3.4 magnitude earthquake northwest of Somonauk," the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office posted to Facebook at 3:14 a.m.

Princeton Council okays city water rate increase
The Princeton City Council authorized a rate increase for city water Monday night. The rate increase is scheduled to take effect with the August billing. According to City Manager Teresa Wittenauer, the average increase per household will be about $3. She cited increased costs, particularly with chemicals used in treatment and mandated EPA testing.

Local ABATE chapter participates in Sandwich car and bike show, wins runner-up award
The Open Roads chapter of ABATE of Illinois, Inc. had a booth at the “Blaze in the City” car and motorcycle show in Sandwich on July 6th. Members manned a booth, promoted ABATE, gave away freebies, sold can coozies, entered their bikes in the show, and sold state bike raffle tickets. Participating members were Cliff and Linda Oleson, Fred Chaffer, Bob and Cherie Mauer, Bill and Sally Kolb, Bruce Littlebrant, Patti and Kevin Smith, Sam and Sharyl Mataya, and Frank Lorang.
