Seneca’s Teagan Johnson has signed to continue her education at the University of Mississippi, aka Ole Miss, in University, Miss., and her track and field career at the NCAA Division I level with the Rebels. Johnson was a sectional champion and state qualifying pole vaulter for the Fighting Irish, earning a spot on the 2024 Times All-Area Girls Track and Field Honor Roll. Streator to host Labor Day parade after years without one
After years without a Labor Day parade, Streator will once again be hosting the event sponsored by the Streator Chamber of Commerce. The parade, which has not been conducted since 2020, is scheduled for noon Sunday, Sept. 1, beginning with a lineup 10:30 a.m. at the Illinois Street train depot. The parade then will move west on Main Street, and turn north on Park Street to the City Park for its conclusion.
Horizon House opens ‘hub’ in downtown La Salle
As Horizon House of Illinois Valley looks to integrate more of its programs into the community, the agency is excited to open a new location in the heart of it. Horizon House celebrated Thursday afternoon the opening of its new hub at 105 Marquette St. in downtown La Salle with a ribbon cutting coordinated by the Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. The hub opened July 17.
Utica's Mill Street Grant Project Underway; Businesses Will Remain Open
Utica's getting a face-lift that will impact the area around its commercial district for a couple of months – But businesses will remain open for the duration. Work began on July 15th on the grant project to rebuild Mill Street. Upgrades will be made between Mill Street and Route 178, and between Grove and Church streets. Just yesterday (Monday), the stretch of Church Street was temporarily closed to allow for the completion of the water main replacement.

New Details On Streator City Park Shooting
If you've been following the story about a weekend shooting at City Park in Streator, more details have been released. Investigators say at around 4:45 Saturday afternoon, two men had an apparent dispute at the park. One man left, only to come back with several others. Police believe the man who left and came back, walked up to the man he argued with earlier and fired several shots from a semi-automatic handgun. The victim, according to Streator police, was wounded "at least twice". The accused shooter fled the scene in a blue coupe that was later found abandoned on the south side of Streator.

Steve attended Carlinville Area Schools graduating in 1970. He also earned a Bachelor Degree in Aeronautics with a minor in history.
