Howard L. Stahl, 86
Howard L. Stahl, 86, of Shabbona, formerly of Sandwich, IL, and Merrill, WI, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Prairie Crossing Living & Rehabilitation Center in Shabbona. He was born May 19, 1938, in Sandwich, IL, the son of Laverne and Ruth (Waechter) Stahl. Howard proudly served in the US Army from 1961-1963. With some convincing from his cousin, Butch, Howard learned to fly. Howard was eternally grateful for this guidance, for it led him to a great job he truly loved. Howard was a serious genealogist; he would travel extensively to do his research. He had extensive knowledge of his family’s history. In his down time, he enjoyed dancing, watching the Green Bay Packers and attending shows. Most of all he loved visiting his family.

Steward Man Dies After LaSalle County Crash
MENDOTA - A 47-year-old Steward man is dead after a single vehicle crash Sunday in Mendota. The LaSalle County Coroner’s Office says David Gorman struck a tree after leaving Illinois 251 for unknown reasons just north of the city around 6 PM. He was taken to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office.

Elm City Axe Boards buys Church Street property in Princeton for $80,000
The city of Princeton sold a surplus property and helped a local business in the process. The Princeton City Council authorized Monday the sale of 1117 N. Church St. to the company that operates Elm City Axe Boards for $80,000. The property appraised at $90,000 and was advertised to bidders. Elm City’s bid was the lone bid and within the range for the city to accept it.
Lee County man dies after Route 251 crash north of Mendota
A Lee County man died after a single-vehicle crash Sunday north of Mendota. David T. Gorman, 47, of Steward died at OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota from injuries after his southbound vehicle left Route 251 and struck a tree, according to a news release sent Tuesday from the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.
Princeton steps up summer season
The Princeton Tigers football team will be stepping up its summer season this week. The Sandwich City Council has voted to change the order of its meetings to allow for more discussion prior to voting on an item. The city council currently holds its regular city council meetings at 7 p.m. followed by its committee of the whole council meetings, where items are discussed before being voted on. At the July 15 Sandwich City Council meeting, aldermen unanimously voted to change the order of the meetings.

The state of Illinois’ decision for future services at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa has received a stay. Ottawa Commissioner Tom Ganiere informed the Ottawa City Council on Monday that, as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, OSF HealthCare has deferred its certificate of need application for one month, to the September meeting of the Illinois Health Facility and Services Review Board, in order to discuss the opposition its healthcare plan for the area has stirred.
