Williamsport, Pa. — Continuing a decades long tradition, motorcyclists will embark on a “rolling memorial” ride through 42 miles and 14 municipalities of Lycoming County on Sept. 11.

Lycoming County Sheriff Mark Lusk will escort the train of riders and fire police will be positioned at intersections throughout the ride.

On the tragic day that terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and crashed into the World Trade Center, some 3000 lives were lost, including 343 firefighters, and 71 law enforcement officers.

The Pentagon was likewise targeted, resulting in the loss of 184 lives, including both civilian and military personnel.

New 911-Coalition Committee Board Member board member and PA State Representative Joe Hamm said, “It is important that we remember and honor the victims, first responders, and military men and women who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Holding this local memorial ride every year will ensure our brave heroes will never be forgotten.”

The 9/11 Memorial Ride is intended to honor those who lost their lives, but also "to remind our country that we can never take our liberty and freedom for granted," according to the event organizers.

Since 2009, September 11 is officially recognized as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Participants should meet at the Clinton Township Volunteer Company, 2311-Rt 54, Montgomery, PA. Food and other vendors will be on the grounds. Gates will open at 10 a.m. and kickstands up at 6 p.m.

Spectators along the route are encouraged. A blessing of the bikes will be available throughout the day.
