West Burlington, Pa. — A correctional officer was sprayed in the face with cleaning fluid by an inmate.

Jonathan Rivera, 34, allegedly attacked the employee as they were helping with a mattress for a new inmate. The officer was transported to Towanda Memorial Hospital to have her eyes flushed, according to the complaint.

A surveillance video showed Rivera approach the officer before spraying the fluid toward them, Trooper Daniel Kopec said. Rivera was allegedly in the area as part of his work duties.

Rivera is being charged with second-degree felony assault by a prisoner, harassment, and disorderly conduct. His bail is set at $25,000 monetary.

Rivera was found guilty of endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, indecent assault of a child, and criminal attempt of indecent assault of a child in 2018.
