Williamsport, Pa. — A mother left her child at a police station for more than four hours before being charged with a misdemeanor for endangerment.

Geneva Marie Sitler, 42, agreed to pick her son up from the Williamsport Bureau of Police Department on July 16, Sergeant Brian McGee said. The juvenile was in custody as a missing person, according to the complaint.

From 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. police called Sitler three times, McGee wrote in the affidavit. Officer Nathan Kendall went to Sitler’s home in Williamsport, McGee added. Sitler allegedly said she would come to the station within a half hour of speaking with Kendall. She never showed.

Children and Youth agents came to the station 7:15 p.m. to take the juvenile into custody, according to McGee. “It was not until Children and Youth became involved and took custody of the juvenile that the defendant finally arrived at the police station,” McGee said.

The child waited at the police station for more than four hours, according to the affidavit. McGee claimed Sitler showed no interest in caring for her son.

Sitler is being charged with first-degree misdemeanor endangering the welfare of children. No bail is listed for Sitler, who is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at the beginning of October.

It’s supposed to be safe haven with no consequences. How else are they to encourage people to choose to leave children safely than a possible dangerous alternative? Smh
