Trooper pulls child from pond
Ulysses, Pa. — State police pulled a mentally-handicapped child from a pond after reports the child was walking unsupervised along the roadway. Trp. Benjamin Sterling of state police at Coudersport was called to the 4400 block of Loucks Mills Road after a witness reported seeing a nude mentally-handicapped child walking in the roadway on July 5 around 8 a.m. By the time Sterling arrived, the child had wandered into a pond and was beginning to submerge, he said. After going into the water and pulling the child out, the child was returned to family members. Police did not say if anyone is being charged for the incident, which they reported as child endangerment.
Montour County hires new Director of Veterans Affairs
Danville, Pa. — Montour County has a new person in charge of serving veterans in the county. Dale Myers was hired Tuesday. He is a 20-year U.S. Navy veteran and will oversee the department that helps vets access services and get assistance. Montour County Commissioners this week approved the hiring of the new Director of Veterans Affairs and the $26,000 annual salary. He replaces Tim Wright, who recently resigned for personal reasons. Myers, a Danville resident, will start today.

Man convicted of sex crimes sentenced
Mansfield, Pa. — A Florida man was sentenced to 5-12 years in state prison for having a sexual relationship with a teen girl. Brandon O'Neal Allen, of Davenport, Fla. pleaded guilty to felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors during a court proceeding in May. Police began an investigation in December into allegations Allen was sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in the fall of 2023. State Trooper Joshua Fisher charged Allen with ten counts of sexual offenses. Prosecutors dropped eight of those charges in exchange for his guilty plea earlier this year. As part of his sentence, Allen will serve three years of state mandated probation at the end of his 12-year sentence and be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. New electric vehicle fee coming to Pennsylvania

Police identify victims at rally shooting
Butler, Pa. — The Pennsylvania State Police today released the names of the three attendees shot during the attempted assassination of former President Trump at yesterday’s rally in Butler County. The deceased victim was identified as Corey Comperatore, 50, of Sarver, PA. The second victim has been identified as 57-year-old David Dutch, of New Kensington, PA, who is currently listed in stable condition. Bluey event draws thousands downtown
Williamsport, Pa. — Thousands of Bluey fans converged downtown Williamsport for the highly-anticipated Otto Bookstore Block Party featuring the beloved blue heeler stories. It was a fun-filled day of games, activities, food trucks and so much more, said organizer John Shableski. “We knew it was going to be a big event," he said. Actress Shannen Doherty, known for her role in the high school drama series "Beverly Hills 90210," died after a long fight with breast cancer, People magazine reported on Sunday. "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty," Doherty's publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement to People.
