Fort Mitchell has announced City Administrator Edwin King has recently joined the United States Coast Guard Reserves and completed his entry training.

King’s graduation ceremony took place at the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey, recently.

“We appreciate Edwin’s dedication and effort in both service to Fort Mitchell and to the United States Coast Guard,” said Fort Mitchell Mayor Jude Hehman. “His commitment exemplifies the value of leadership for our community and country.”

King trained for almost a year in preparation for the Direct Entry Petty Officer Training and enters the Coast Guard Reserves as a Petty Officer First Class.

He will find out later this year if he will receive an officer commission in the Reserves.

King notes there is a lot of first response/emergency management training in the Coast Guard that overlaps with training Fort Mitchell Fire and Police receive.

“I think my experience thus far will enhance my understanding and appreciation of what Fort Mitchell First Responders deal with on a daily basis, which will only help me in my role as City Administrator,” he said.

King’s commitment to the Coast Guard Reserves includes serving one weekend a month, two weeks a year.
